Green boys, those capitalists

Boitsfort, Uccle and Sonian Forest

_DSF6520-2.jpg

Although we are no longer familiar with the world of horse racing tracks today, hippodromes were places of pleasure, entertainment, fame and money in the 19th century. In no time, Leopold II built one hippodrome after another in our country. The first was this one at Boitsfort. A trip to another time…

For lovers of history, culture and nature.

The stories

Industrialisation shook our society in the 19th century. The bourgeoisie outgrew the nobility, and Brussels was bursting at the seams. We start at the Hippodrome of Boitsfort and dive into the world of jockeys, grooms and beau monde. Furthermore, we discover why it is much steeper in the Sonian Forest than around it, remains of the second world war, and pools in which you can drown very quickly and easily.

What they say about it...

"We discovered the history of the hippodrome of Boitsfort, the Sonian forest, the Tournay-Solvay domain. We are enthusiastic and will participate in the other walks too. Jan is very pleasant to listen to as he spices his stories with little words of humour..."
